Discover the gold to
re-member the true essence of self.

Cheryl Lewin, RP

The art of Kintsugi (golden journey), also known as Kintsukuroi (golden repair), is the Japanese technique of repairing broken pottery by mending the breakage with lacquer mixed with powdered gold. The philosophy of Kintsugi’s practice treats the damage and repair process as part of the history of the object, rather than something to disguise.

The symbolism of this practice speaks to the human experience. We all begin life with a self that is whole and intact until we experience encounters that challenge our self-perception, sense of purpose, or concept of personal value. Experiences of physical or emotional trauma can leave us feeling internally shattered to our core. Often, we develop methods of coping in an attempt to hide ours scars from the world and ourselves. The experience of pain is a natural, inescapable part of human existence, yet we are evolutionary beings designed to adapt and thrive.

Healing is neither a linear process, nor is it a process that happens in isolation.  Everything is relational and it is through healthy relationship a sense of wholeness can return.
